G.rizo

G.rizo (nee Ihu Anyanwu) is an house music DJ, singer, producer and cultural organizer based in Abuja, Nigeria. She has been involved in the electronic music scene since 1999, a journey that started in New York City and thrived for many years in Vienna. In 2010 she started releasing music on her own label imprint Hezekina Pollutina Records.

Specializing in pop and funk-based dance music, G.rizo has a versatile range with 20 years of musical excursions in electro, disco, techno and house. With an eclectic palate, and an asymmetric interpretation of dance music, G.rizo, as Negative.ch puts it, “provides dance music for sophisticated minds.”

Having released singles for a decade as a vocalist (on labels such as Codek Records, Gigolo Records, Citinite) and featured on releases by super talented producers (In Flagranti, Patrick Pulsinger, Alexander Robotik, Donovans, Maximilian Skiba, Dubblestandart, Disco Doubles, Gerhard Potuznik, and I-Wolf), the release of her self-released “Active Methods EP” in 2014, with its single “Its Happening” (which Spex Magazine described as “80’s mythical futurism”), gives a hint at G.rizo’s potential as a producer and song writer.

In a few short years, G.rizo has made an indelible mark on the Abuja creative scene and continues to play an important role in helping to build the electronic music community. She started the intimate house music party series “House x House x House” in 2018, and launched its podcast in 2020, where she spins and hosts guest DJs, vocalists and producers. G.rizo is also a recurring DJ at Bush Bar Sessions, Abuja’s biggest electronic music event.

Hezekina Pollutina has evolved beyond an electronic music label to now encompass G.rizo's other creative activities including music and art event production. Some events Hezekina Pollutina Ltd. has produced include: Hezekina Pollutina Label Nights, House x House x House, Naija Tech Creatives and Abuja Art Week.

A new era is beginning for G.rizo in 2022. G.rizo is preparing for new releases after a long hiatus. In addition to new music, she will establish a club residency in Nigeria with a premium music establishment as a way to showcase her immense creative visions, as well as, to lay solid roots for the budding Nigerian house and electronic music scene.
